Why this route

Cartagena and Medellin pair the two Colombias most travelers want: a 500-year-old walled Caribbean port at sea level and a mountain city at 1,500 m with spring weather year-round. In 2026 the one-hour flight between them lists at 50 to 90 USD, and the week totals 1,200 to 1,600 USD per person with mid-range hotels, day tours, and domestic flights. The order matters: three nights on the coast for heat and history, then four nights in the mountains for coffee, viewpoints, and the Guatape day trip. Altitude risk is nil throughout, since Medellin's 1,500 m troubles almost nobody, which makes this the easiest South America week we sell.
Cartagena's old town holds 13 km of walls, 7 km walkable, with hotel doubles inside the walls at 90 to 140 USD and in Getsemani at 60 to 90 USD. Medellin runs on its metro and cable cars, 1 USD a ride, which turn the hillside viewpoints into public transport. The Guatape day covers 80 km each way, the 740-step rock climb, and the lake lunch, at 60 to 80 USD per person guided. December through March brings the driest coast weather, while Medellin stays 22 to 28 C in every month.

If you go
This is a forgiving week, but order and heat still matter. Notes for the 2026 season follow.
- Start on the coast and end in the mountains; the heat-to-mild order keeps energy up all week.
- Budget 1,200 to 1,600 USD per person with mid-range hotels, tours, and the 50 to 90 USD domestic flight.
- Walk Cartagena before 11:00 and after 16:00; the 30 C midday belongs to rest and long lunches.
- Use the Medellin metro-cable at 1 USD for viewpoints; it replaces 30 USD taxi tours to the same hills.
- Climb Guatape early at 07:00; the 740 steps queue by 10:00 and the heat builds on the rock face.
- Carry small pesos for markets, street food at 3 to 8 USD, and tips of 5 to 10 USD per guided day.
We begin with a walk-through call, draft the coast-to-mountain order, lock the Rosario and Guatape days, and brief you in Cartagena. Our line tracks every flight and pickup daily.
