Field log by Diego Fuentes, Patagonia and Atacama logistics planner who runs our Iguazu staging. Trails and prices checked for 2026.
Why this route

Iguazu needs both countries: the Argentine side holds 80 percent of the 275 falls and the 1 km Devil's Throat walkway, while the Brazilian side holds the panoramic 1.5 km trail where the whole semicircular curtain reads in one view. In 2026 the Argentine park entry is 45 USD and the Brazilian side 25 USD, and the three-day base in Puerto Iguazu town totals 500 to 700 USD per person with a mid-range hotel, both park days, and the boat ride. The falls run highest from December through February, when flow passes 6,000 cubic meters per second, four times the August low. We order Argentina first across two days, because its 7 km of trails deserve the fresh legs, then Brazil in a single half day.
Puerto Iguazu town sits 18 km from the Argentine gate and 25 km from the Brazilian gate across the border, with taxis at 15 to 25 USD and buses at 3 USD each leg. The boat ride under the falls, 60 USD in 2026, soaks every passenger and runs only when flow stays under safety limits. Park trains on the Argentine side cover the 4 km to the Devil's Throat station in 20 minutes, and the walkway crossing takes 60 minutes each way. Three full days also absorb a rain closure, which shuts the lower Argentine trail roughly one week per wet season.
The log: two countries, 275 falls
Five dated entries from arrival to the final viewpoint. Trail kilometers and flow notes kept daily.
Day 1 - Puerto Iguazu arrival
We meet your flight at IGR airport, 20 minutes and 12 USD by taxi to town. Check-in at a partner hotel with pool, doubles 60 to 95 USD, which matters after trail days in 30 C heat. The afternoon is the Triple Frontier landmark, 6 km out, where the Iguazu and Parana rivers meet three countries, entry free. Evening briefing at 18:00 covers the two-park order, border document checks, and the boat-ride dry bags, then dinner is surubi river fish, 14 USD, on the main avenue.
Day 2 - Argentine side: upper and lower trails
The 08:00 bus covers 18 km to the Argentine gate, entry 45 USD, and the morning runs the 1.7 km upper trail, 2 hours, across footbridges over the Two Sisters and Bossetti falls. Midday is lunch inside the park, 12 USD, then the 1.4 km lower trail with the 55 m staircase descent to the Salto Escondido viewpoint. Afternoon ends at 17:00 after 6 km of trails. Evening is rest at the hotel pool; the Devil's Throat day starts at 07:30.
Day 3 - Devil's Throat and the boat
Morning train at 09:00 covers 4 km to the Devil's Throat station in 20 minutes, then the 1 km flat walkway over the upper river to the 82 m drop, where 1,800 cubic meters per second fall at the platform edge. Midday is the boat ride, 60 USD, 45 minutes with the direct run under the San Martin fall soaking the boat twice. Afternoon is the 7 km ecological train trail option or rest, and return by 17:00. Evening briefing covers the Brazil border crossing and the 25 USD entry.
Day 4 - Brazilian side panorama
The 08:00 crossing covers 25 km to the Brazilian gate in 45 minutes including the border, entry 25 USD. Morning is the 1.5 km panoramic trail, 2 hours, ending at the Devil's Throat elevator viewpoint facing the full curtain from 200 m. Midday is lunch at the park restaurant, 18 USD, then the Parque das Aves bird park, entry 20 USD, 2 hours among toucans and macaws in 8 walk-through aviaries. Return by 16:00 after the easiest and most photogenic day of the three.
Day 5 - Itaipu option and departure
Morning option is the Itaipu dam tour, 30 km, entry 20 USD, 2 hours through the powerhouse that supplies 10 percent of Brazil's electricity. Midday returns for lunch and the airport transfer, 20 minutes, timed for afternoon flights. Total 2026 three-day spend lands near 500 to 700 USD per person with hotels, entries, and the boat. We close with a feedback call within a week.
If you go
Two parks and one border need sequencing. The 2026 notes below hold the order.
- Give Argentina two days and Brazil one half day; the 7 km of Argentine trails earn the split.
- Budget 500 to 700 USD per person for three days with hotel, both entries, and the 60 USD boat ride.
- Carry passports daily; the Brazil crossing checks documents both ways, 45 minutes with queues.
- Visit December to February for peak flow above 6,000 cubic meters per second, August for calmer trails.
- Pack sealed dry bags and sandals for the boat; the run under the falls soaks cameras and shoes alike.
- Book the boat for day three morning; high flow cancels afternoon departures first.
- Start Argentine days at opening time; tour buses arrive by 10:00 and the walkways narrow by midday.
We begin with a walk-through call, draft the two-park order, pre-book the boat slot, and brief you on arrival. Our line tracks every transfer and border crossing daily.
